The latency will be accounted for by the DAW as you mentioned, but unless you're running every input through the DAW (not ideal), you'll have to potentially account for the latency against the tracks not running through.
I've used Pro Tools and Logic live in the same manner with success. The multi-rack basically provides an environment specifically for that, and tries to make it easier for you. It's been possible to use plugins live for as long as we've had digital audio, it just took extra work and had to be done very purposefully. I think latency and stability are the selling points. I realize latency is higher with native and it seems like the increased latency could be passable or a show stopper depending on the venue size and monitor configuration.
I've bought some Waves to try an accommodate for what I'll be missing and want to know if Multirack is worth my money.
I used to mix at a church where I was well equipped with Midas digital consoles (I loved the dynamic EQ), but I've moved for my full time job. So if I was only using Waves plugins, is there any benefit to using Multirack over Reaper? I'm legitimately wondering if there's any reason for me to pay for a year of Tracks Live just to get Multirack for way cheaper. However, my understanding is that Reaper also will match latency globally assuming that all plugins correctly report latency. I understand that Multirack matches latency across all tracks and lets you define multiple groups to separately match the latency.
